Winter 2016 Stream: Myriad Colors Phantom World: Episode 10

An episode focusing on RuRu makes for another better episode giving some character development to the anime original RuRu while also allowing for some emotional range beyond the ethos of slapstick comedy and determination to defeat the monster of the week. Solidly shot and given an amount of emotional range that I wish was more common in this series. While seeing RuRu have to pretend to be someone else and fail spectacularly at club sports is humorous and the few moments of honesty from Haruhiko are nice as well but the fake out at the end is simply manipulative and the show again returns back to status quo making for a good episodic narrative that the series has had as a whole without really any plot progression feeling overly interested in its characters and design and art direction to the expense of any narrative momentum. In short by the end, this could end up being a bad series with a few gems in individual stories this episode being one of the strings of pearls found in this slag heap.
